Qatar Airways: Brand overview
Founded: | November 22, 1993 |
Headquarters: | Qatar Airways Towers, Doha, Qatar |
Website: | qatarairways.com |
Qatar Airways is Qatar’s national air transport structure. It is located in the city of Doha and founded in 1993, engaged in international flights.
Meaning and History
The full name of the airline is Qatar Airways Company Q.C.S.C. For her emblem, from the very beginning, she chose the symbol of the state of Qatar – the Arabian oryx. It personifies high speed, so it fits perfectly into the concept. It is a well-guarded animal that is cared for nationwide as well as an air carrier. Since its inception, the company has had three logos.
The color that dominates the design of the emblem is not the same color that is used in the Qatar National Flag, but it is quite close to it. The design of the logo itself is unique due to the choice of the animal, and the way the oryx is presented.
What is Qatar Airways?
It is the airline representing the State of Qatar internationally. It is considered one of the largest in its country and has been a member of the Oneworld alliance since 2013.

The debut version shows the head of an oryx on a dark diagonal stripe that intersects a rectangle. The rest of the background is light. The predominant colors are black, white, gray.
1997 – 2006
After the redesign, the logo became colorful and varied. The name of the company appeared on it in two versions: in English and Arabic. The designers enlarged the image of the Arabian oryx and placed it in a dashed circle.
2006 – today
In 2006, the developers changed the arrangement of the main elements. They moved the airline symbol to the name’s right, which is larger than in the previous version. The colors of the logo are gray, dark cherry, and white. The Arabic spelling is retained.
Font and Colors
From the very beginning, the Arabian oryx flaunted the branding of the main air carrier of the State of Qatar. He perfectly embodies speed, being one of the record holders in the running. The animal is not fully depicted – only the head with a part of the neck and long sharp horns are presented in the logo. Their outlines are repeated in the horizontal lines that make up the circle. These strokes also represent the ripped currents of air from the rush forward. On the right, they are thin, on the left – wide, which most closely resembles air jets.
Before the oryx, there are two rows of words: at the top – “Qatar,” at the bottom – the air carrier’s status in English and Arabic. But onboard aircraft, a single line logo is used. It is located along with the front windows. An antelope is depicted on the tail.
For the lettering in the logo, the authors chose a sleek sans-serif typeface created by the famous German typographer Hermann Zapf. In particular, the Optima Demi Bold font blends harmoniously with the straight and long horns of the Arabian oryx: it balances them. In 2015, Jotia, designed by Rebecca Hurst, was chosen as the corporate font. The emblem palette consists of two colors: deep purple and gray-metallic. They are visible against a white background.
