The first title from the exciting series made up from the BBC’s natural history output. Just the sight of a shark’s fin breaking the surface spells terror. Underwater filming of these awesome, two ton, 19 foot fish in their natural unbaited environments exposes the Great White as a paradox: a shy and cautious creature existing within a highly structured social order, but also a terrific killing machine striking with total surprise and devatating speed from the murky depths.

Grizzly: Face to Face

Filming 14,000 feet high in the Himalayas, in the Gobi desert and of course in North America, ‘Grizzly — Nature’s Entrepreneur’ meets the most intelligent and adaptable of the worlds eight species of bear. This epic production, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, reveals the bears curiosity, playfulness and fighting prowess and its important role in the survival of their environment.

Humpback Whale: Giant of the Oceans

The humpback whale is not so much a gentle giant but a clever killer, herding together shoals of fish for gigantic meals. Until recently, it was unclear how humpbacks hunted fish so successfully, but by getting up close and personal with the giants, it is now known that they have an underwater communication system to detect fish miles away. The whales work as a team, using their powerful voices to ‘scream’ at the fish and gather them into tight balls which they swallow in giant mouthfuls. New satellite tracking techniques reveal that humpbacks travel on extraordinary ocean journeys to feed and mate. Capable of great tenderness, but also fierce infighting, this program follows the whales as they roam the earth’s oceans.

Мои впечатления

В этот раз операторы не гонялись за экзотическим существами. Этот сериал про, наверное, самых известных недомашних представителях фауны, знаковых, можно сказать, нарицательных героев дикой природы. Тем не менее, тут масса любопытных, неожиданных фактов, впечатляющих кадров и удивительных, а иногда и неизвестных прежде подробностей.

Представить известных животных в новом свете удалось во многом благодаря многочисленным новаторским способам съемок. Помимо съемок с воздуха, ночных и высокоскоростных, нужно отметить съемки с использованием в более поздних выпусках всевозможных замаскированных видеокамер, стационарных, носимых и даже самодвижущихся, что позволило получать четкие изображения с небывало близких расстояний. Не говоря о забавных кадрах реакции героев на сами эти камеры. Даже среди ранних, не отличающихся высоким качеством картинки, выпусков попадаются очень интересные и информативные, при этом, однако, среди более поздних есть значительно менее удачные Из ранних очень понравилась серия про крокодилов,
про леопардов тоже неплохая, а, к примеру, серия про
касаток не очень понравилась — неоправданно много
кадров посредственного компьютерного моделиро-
вания и рваного «драматичного» монтажа. .

Получился неплохой сериал о живой природе, пусть не очень ровный, с разными по качеству эпизодами, но с просто замечательными, занятными, содержательными и зрелищными лучшими из них.

Моя оценка

Язык

Хорошие, содержательные, но совсем не перегруженные фактами тексты. Аттенборо говорит, как всегда, безупречно, Дэвид Теннант чуть нарочито, но вполне разборчиво и мило «шотландит». Всё понятно, тем более с субтитрами.
